Karlie começou a desfilar para marca em 2011, quando tinha apenas 19 anos, e disse à revista que sua imaturidade também afetou suas escolhas como profissional. “Eu acho que tinha medo de perder um trabalho ou perder meu lugar se dissesse que não queria fazer algo”, contou à Vogue.

Em 2013, ela foi consagrada como uma Angel oficial, porém em 2015 anunciou que pararia de desfilar para a marca. Durante dois anos ela ingressou na Universidade de Nova York onde estudou teoria feminista, matéria que influenciou a maneira como via a marca para a qual trabalhava e a moda em geral.
