Esse período importantíssimo da vida de todas as mulheres é tratado como algo vergonhoso e pouco se fala sobre o assunto.

A Diretora iraniana/americana Rayka Zehtabchi, de 25 anos, quebrou barreiras e topou falar sobre o estigma da menstruação, através da história inspiradora de mulheres em um vilarejo rural na India.

O documentário fantástico que levou o Oscar na edição de 2019 se chama Period. End of the sentence (Absorvendo o Tabu, em português)

Em quase 100 anos de história, o Oscar nominou apenas 5 mulheres na categoria Melhor Diretor. Esse Oscar é uma vitória não só para a Diretora e o todo o time por trás do documentário, mas para todas as mulheres do mundo.

Mulheres sem acesso a condições básicas

O documentário mostra como uma máquina de absorventes foi capaz de revolucionar um vilarejo inteiro no interior da India. A diretora documentou a luta das mulheres contra o tabu da menstruação, enraizado desde sempre na sociedade.

Por muitos anos, as mulheres do vilarejo não tiveram acesso a absorventes, o que levava a problemas de saúde, meninas perdendo aulas na escola e pingando sangue sem parar. Sem saber o que fazer.

Quando uma máquina de absorventes é instalada no vilarejo, as mulheres aprendem a manufaturar seus absorventes e transformam isso um negócio local, empoderando as figuras femininas da comunidade.

Elas nomeiam a marca de absorventes como “Voe”, pois elas querem que as mulheres “voem” – em um sentido figurado que significa “libertação”.

O aquisição da máquina foi resultado do trabalho de adolescentes americanas da Califórnia, que coletaram o investimento inicial para a compra da máquina e iniciaram um projeto não lucrativo chamado “The Pad Project”, ou em português, Projeto do absorvente.

A máquina trouxe uma solução para a falta de absorventes na comunidade, mas também abriu portas para a discussão do assunto Menstruação, que deve ser tratado como algo natural, e não um problema.

Antes da chegada da máquina, 23% das adolescentes largavam a escola toda vez que o período menstrual vinha pela primeira vez, devido a vergonha e o julgamento sofrido sobre a questão.

O projeto realizado nos Estados Unidos, visa mudar esse estigma e atingir comunidades pobres ao redor do mundo.

“Quando uma menina menstrua nos Estados Unidos, talvez ela perca uma aula na escola. Quando uma menina menstrua em um país em desenvolvimento, talvez ela nunca mais volte à escola. “

Pobreza não é a única barreira da educação destes vilarejos, mas o ciclo menstrual também.
