Não é novidade que artistas e pessoas públicas sofrem esses ataques diariamente, e foi assim que a grife Diesel teve a ideia de transformar algo tão desagradável em moda. Intitulada “Hate Couture”, um trocadilho com “Haute Couture” que significa alta-costura, a campanha tem como lema “Quando mais ódio você usa, menos você se importa”.

Ativistas, modelos e artistas como Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Bella Thorne, Barbie Ferreira, Bria Vinaite e Tommy Dorfman foram convidados a utilizar peças da grife com comentários ofensivos estampados. O ator e ativista da causa LGBT, conhecido pela série “13 Reasons Why”, Tommy Dorfman, usa uma jaqueta escrito “faggot”, uma palavra ofensiva usada para se referir a um homem homosexual. A atriz Bella Thorne, veste uma camiseta escrito “slut”, ironizando os comentários ofensivos que recebe por já ter namorado homens e mulheres. Nem mesmo a própria Diesel escapou dos comentários e lançou peças com a frase “Diesel está morta”.

Já a escolha de Nicki Minaj, usando uma jaqueta com a frase “The Bad Guy”, para fazer parte da campanha não foi muito bem recebida por algumas pessoas, já que recentemente a rapper recebeu críticas por usar linguagem homofóbica nas músicas do seu último álbum.

Em 1995, quando existia uma política de esconder pessoas LGBT dentro dos serviços militares nos Estados Unidos, o próprio fundador da Diesel, Renzo Rosso, e o fotógrafo David LaChapelle criaram uma propaganda icônica com dois marinheiros se beijando.

Recentemente, o diretor criativo da grife, Nicola Formichetti, incluiu modelos com deficiência e também transgêneros em suas campanhas, além de se posicionar fortemente contra as políticas do presidente Donald Trump.
